How to become a new member?

New Member Guidelines

LCMS Members – Obtain transfer from your current congregation. If you would like us to do it please let us know. We will be more than happy to contact your former congregation to obtain the transfer of records.

Non-LCMS members – Obtain a release of membership from your congregation. Also please speak with the pastor about why you desire to join St. James (or St. Paul's) Lutheran Church. You will need to go through an adult instruction class at the pastor's descretion. This class will cover the basics of the Lutheran doctrine.

Unbaptized who desire to be a member – Speak with the pastor. If one is seeking baptism please speak with the pastor. He will discuss with that person the benefits of baptism and will require that they go through an adult instruction class before they will be able to commune at the Lord’s Table.

What does the Adult Instruction Class entail?

  • What is the Bible?
  • What is the Catechism and Who is Martin Luther?
  • Who is God?
